Thailand, 2008

Our 777 awaits us on a cold February day:

After just under 16 hours of flying time, we have a 6-hour layover in Hong Kong before our flight to Bangkok:

Bangkok:

The world's largest reclining Buddha:

One must be a genius to maintain any electrical wiring here:

Salt:

I believe this is the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market:

Kanchanaburi War Cemetery and JEATH (primary nationalities involved in the construction of the railway: Japanese, English, Australian, American, Thai and Holland) Museum:

The infamous "death railway":

Bridge over the River Kwai:

Part of our hotel complex in Kanchanaburi province:

Erawan National Park:

Our hotel complex (another view). We had breakfast outside where the tables and chairs are located:

Arriving in Chiang Rai from Bangkok:

Our accommodations here were magnificent:

Wild elephants on the drive from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai:

I wonder where the men's room is:

At the elephant sanctuary run by Sangdeaun Lek Chailert:

Looks like my handout was gratefully accepted:

Elephant bathing time:

Getting a little rambunctious!:

Maybe they are...:

Back in Bangkok after flying from Chiang Mai:

Our hotel, The Arnoma, is on the right (it's across from the CentralWorld shopping centre). CentralWorld was temporarily closed on 19 May 2010 due to severe arson damage, which occurred as troops dislodged protesters from the area during the 2010 Thailand political protests. The adjoining 'Zen' section suffered massive damage from the rioters. In addition, the market just to the left of our hotel was bombed - date unknown):

Our Air Canada return flight awaits us in Hong Kong:
